Flying flowers and Olympic dreams.

In The little roomies, Things we've put the ground on July 17, 2009 at 1:01 pm

The Flying TomatoToday little CC went to the garden to check on her Roma tomato plant, the only one really doing anything in the producing fruit department. While she was out there, a butterfly fluttered around her and she decided that it really liked her tomato plants. My first thought was oh shit OMG!!! that butterfly is laying eggs on her plant and those flipping caterpillars are going to eat up the only tomato plant she’s got that’s doing anything! Of course being as wonderful as she is, CC never sees things in such a paranoid or cynical manner. She was excited!! We do love our winged creatures around here.

Was it a Monarch? “No.” How about a Swallow Tail? “I don’t think so. It was really cool!!.” Since when do Swallow Tail butterflies fall to the bottom of the coolness list, I want to know.

So we proceed to look up orange butterflies on Google images, because that’s how I know so much about stuff. It isn’t there! She doesn’t see it anywhere!  ”Do you want me to draw it for you, Mama?” Gosh I love it when she calls me that. You can do anything your little heart desires when you call me Mama, dearie. Quickly, much faster than I would have expected, she produces a sketch of the little bugger. “If we didn’t find it on the computer, do we get to name it?” Of course we do, because that’s what being a kid is all about, isn’t it?  Because if it isn’t in the computer, it simply must not exist outside of our little piece of the world.  It’s got nothing at all to do with the fact that Mama is the worst searcher in the history of looking things up on a computer.  Ten donuts to a dollar your daddy could’ve found that flutterer faster than you could have described it.  But still.

Well, I’m going to have to share a little something with everyone. We’re BIG TIME Olympic enthusiasts here at the Frank house.  Crazy big.  I’m not so into sports in any way on a regular basis, but when the Olympics roll around, I’ll watch it all. Summer or winter, we simply don’t care. I truly believe that they should show every Olympian in every single event, and I get completely offended that some dude at NBC or CBS gets to decide that I only get to see the Americans (for the most part). I don’t want editing so that there’s time enough to see the regularly scheduled program, I want to see that one guy playing ping pong that never made it past the first round of elimination. I want to see the bob-sled team that had never practiced in the cold.  I want to see that one sport on the ice with the fat guys using brooms that my hubby is convinced that he could “totally do.”  Oh, and did you see the syncronized diving?!  I was glued to the set.  For hours.  It was unbelievable!  Yeah, yeah, we all love Michael Phelps, but I want to watch the worst of the best and all the rest too, 24/7, start to finish. That’s my crazy that I put on my children… so sorry guys!  So it wasn’t a stretch when little CC decided that HER breed of butterfly should be named The Flying Tomato (!!!!!!).

You go girl!!
