Home again, home again, jiggity jig. Isn’t that how it goes? Maybe? I’m not so good on the Nursery Rhymes. Speaking of Nursery Rhymes, I have to tell you a secret. A dirty little Frank family secret. Something that I didn’t think was quite such a big deal until recently. My daughter has no idea who any of the Disney princesses are. Please don’t hit me! She has no interest, and I am not huge on Disney myself, so… we just didn’t. This came up recently, and my companion seriously went off on me! As if it made me a bad parent or something, keeping those precious princesses away from her. Do not misunderstand me, we are not anti-Disney by any means. She watches their channel, and she’s seen some Disney movies. In fact, if they made a Disney movie with a dog in it, there’s a 99% chance that she’s seen it. Even the bad ones. Multiple. Times. Until my eyes and ears bleed. For some reason though, if you have a daughter, it is considered a mortal sin if said daughter doesn’t know who Jasmine is, or Belle. Pffft.
Hi. My name is Becky, and I have been withholding the Disney princesses from my daughter for 8 years now.
Man does it feel good to get that monkey off of my back. Now what are those other eleven steps again?
So school was closed again today. That’s two Mondays in a row for those of you keeping track. You would think that having Mondays off would be AWESOME, but really it just messes up Tuesdays. Now Fridays off is another matter entirely. Anyhow, it was so super cold today and blustery that the kids and I did what we would have done no matter what the weather and stayed home in our pj’s.
I worked on some computer stuff. I’m trying to set up an Etsy shop to sell some stuff in the future, and I was putting some things in motion related to that as well as a tiny bit of an attempt at figuring out site optimization for the blog. At that I failed miserably. I still don’t understand how to use the All In One SEO Pack that I have here on my WordPress Admin page for each blog entry. I even put my genius teenaged son on the case, and after weeding through a bunch of stuff on WordPress as well as attempting to follow the author’s information page (for the 20th time, btw) explaining the plug in we finally gave up. Collectively defeated. A battle for another day, I guess.
Once that was done, I decided that it was high time that I updated my resume. Tricky territory to be discussing, since I’m gainfully employed and I’m not looking to jump ship. Here’s why. I came across a copy of my resume one day a few months back. I said to myself “huh! this is really out of date! i should really update that, I don’t have anything after 2006 on there!” I looked on my computer briefly, but couldn’t find a more current version, even though I didn’t get the job where I’m working until 2007. But now that I think about it, he had my resume for a year before he called me, so I guess it could be so. Anyhow, I wanted to do it, I knew that I needed to do it “just in case” but I didn’t do it. And then last week, my coworker that I will refer to as worker bee #2 asked for my help with something on her computer. When I figured it all out and fixed everything up, she said to me “Oh Becky! I don’t know what I’m gonna do without you!” Of course I laughed it off, but I was kind of taken back by the statement, because the last I heard I wasn’t going anywhere. That I know of, anyhow. And then the paranoia kicked in, because she is a longtime tight friend with the owner of the company. The one that does the firing. So I stewed on it for a week or so and when this free day today came up I realized that I better get it done. Better safe than sorry, and it would be much harder to format a resume through the tears once I got the boot than it was today. And let me tell you, it was a complete pain in the ass today. It took all of the patience I could muster and all of the smarts I could pull together at that, and it still took me all day, it seemed. BUT, in the event that something is coming and I AM on the way out, I’ll be prepared instead of being a deer caught in the headlights. It feels alright being proactive today.
